Description

The late 1960's and early 1970's were a transitional period for many things, fashion included. Hair styles had become quite large, elaborate, and highly stylized by the late 60's, with 1968 being seen by many as the pinnacle of the bouffant updo and other styles. The 70's would bring softer, less structured styles such as Farrah Fawcett's famous "Charlie's Angels" 'do and later the styles of the disco era, but early in the decade a style called "the Half-up" was made popular by TV shows such as "Here Come the Brides", "The Partridge Family", "The Brady Bunch", and "Room 222". The half-up could be a very soft, pretty, and feminine style that was easy to create and maintain, while at the same time it could be quickly dressed up for a more glamourous look. This drawing is something of a tribute to the hair of the era, combining elements of a classic 60's flip and updo into a very glam half-up, perhaps something you'd expect to see on Miss America 1968 for her crowning.
